LEAGUE HISTORY
League History
The NBJFL is comprised of youth football programs in northern Bergen County, as well as programs from surrounding geographic areas, all of whom are fully committed to our mission: providing every participant, player and cheerleader, with a fun, safe, competitive, and memorable youth football experience.
The NBJFL is widely considered the “best youth football league in the state of New Jersey,” and we are proud of the reputation we have created as a result of our commitment to fair play, sportsmanship, safety, and the creation of competitive parity for every member of our league.
The programs in our league are diverse in terms of demographics and program size, but the common denominator that enables the NBJFL to be “the best youth football league in New Jersey” is our unique approach to ensuring every decision the NBJFL makes is based solely on the best interests of every member of our league.
In fact, a major focus area is the manner in which we view the season as three (3) successful parts: pre-season, regular season, and post-season.
- Pre-season: At the onset of the season, the NBJFL hosts a free football clinic for every participant in our league. The free clinic is led by football coaches from each respective program in our league. Each year, over 500 participants join together and enjoy a day of football.
- Regular season: Simply put, we created a unique open scheduling system to ensure all programs play a schedule that best fits their needs.
- Post-season: (A) At the conclusion of the regular season, teams are objectively ranked by level, from most competitive to least competitive (based on regular season results), and as a result, post-season brackets are created to ensure “like-competitive” teams play one another (in the same divisional brackets) in an effort to provide a post-season which benefits all programs. (B) At the conclusion of the playoffs, we organize a NBJFL All-Star Game. Participants from every program participate, and coaches from every program join together to put an exclamation point on a successful season for all programs in the NBJFL.
- Fair Lawn Football Association joined the NBJFL in 2018. Prior, FLFA competed and won several championships in the Tri-County Football League. Since 2018, the following teams have qualified for the NBJFL playoffs:
- 2019 Peewee (Finals), 2019 Seniors (Champions), 2020 Juniors (Finals), 2020 Seniors (Champions), 2021 Juniors (Finals), 2023 Seniors (Semifinals), and 2024 Peewees (Semifinals).
